LEATHER EMBOSSING
Hand-embossing leather is the art of pressing a design or pattern into the surface of leather using manual tools and pressure, often with the aid of heat or moisture. It’s a beautiful way to add custom logos, textures, or decorations to leather goods like wallets, journals, or belts.
To emboss our logo we use vegetable tanned leather as this type absorbs moisture and pressure well. To prepare the Leather (Casing) we damp it slightly for embossing to work effectively. It is crucial not to apply too much water as it can blur the edges or stretch the leather. Then we let it sit for a few minutes until it returns to a cool, slightly damp feel. This allows the fibres to relax and be pressed deeply.
Next we place the logo embossing stamp in correct position using a cut out guide. We use cold embossing method also known as manual pressing. We hold the embossing stamp firmly in place while applying pressure. We check the impression and repeat if needed for evenly deep embossing.
Once this stage is completed we let it dry flat and undisturbed. The design sets as the leather firms up again. The stamp we use is made from metal and even, to prevent shallow or uneven impressions. We apply pressure from above, vertically and reapply it if the edges seem blurred or incorrect.
Leather embossing is an art in itself and we chose this technique as it combines both beauty and durability.
